Research and Development

Research and projects are undertaken with the aim to support educators, parents and students to address any challenges they may be facing. These include:

  • A Research Roadmap which outlines the broad areas the IfE is focusing on in terms of research and practice. It reflects our vision, interests, strengths, and areas requiring focus in the future.
  • The Malta Journal of Education, it’s annual Symposia, the Education Research Week and a Symposium for Colleges which offer young and established researchers an opportunity to disseminate their research findings to a wider audience.
  • Post-symposia projects which provide the opportunity to facilitate networking, inspire educators in their professional development and foster communities of practice.
  • EU projects aimed at enhancing the experience of educators and help them to gain insight into developments and practices in other European countries.
  • All processes and activities related to the dissertation module of the IfE’s programmes.

Testimonials

Physical education was the subject that helped me connect the proverbial dots when I was a student. I decided to take a long-overdue decision to quit my finance career and start teaching P.E. as a supply teacher.

Thanks to IfE, this Bachelor of Education programme has given me the opportunity to eventually become a regular teacher. I am now in my third year of studies and feel that this experience has given me the tools, skills, and knowledge to become a better teacher and offer my students a more "quality" P.E. experience. IfE’s blended learning modules allow me to study in my free time. whilst learning in small groups helps me feel valued as an individual. Tutors are very experienced and well prepared, and modules are well organised. Two major benefits this programme offers are being able to study while working in the teaching sector and being assessed through both practical means and home-based assignments.

Throughout my course I have met lecturers and coordinators with exceptional vision and drive, who strive to meet the students’ academic needs. In the first year of my Master, I had the opportunity to take on the role as a student representative, a role which allowed me to work closely with the coordinator of the course and other members of staff involved.
I am grateful for the ever-inspiring lecturers and mentors who are continuously striving to improve and achieve academic excellence whilst always bringing the student’s voice to the forefront. The sense of collaboration and genuine interest was felt throughout.
The IfE has added enormous value both to my career and to my personal growth as a student. I feel very privileged to be part of this community of scholars and I am thankful for their constant support. I am committed to passing to my young students the same values which were passed on to me by all those at IfE.

When I learned that the Master in Applied Educational Leadership course offered by IFE is mainly asynchronous, I decided I could manage to balance out my time between work,  family and the course.

The MAEL course provides an applied approach to leadership, with most lecturers still practicing what they are discussing with us. They are aware of the realities in today’s schools, and understand the difficulties encountered. The course can be challenging at times, but the help and assistance provided by the lecturers, the course co-ordinator and the Institute’s staff is incredible.

The Master in Applied Educational Leadership is giving me a better insight of what a good school leader should consider when setting out on such an important role.

I decided to follow this course to become more aware of the legal obligations that regulate education and because it focuses on the practical aspects of leadership.
I chose the IfE because it focuses on education and gives the flexibility of online learning. I became more aware of the legal obligations that concern educational leaders. I acquired skills and knowledge which equipped me with the necessary knowledge to better tackle instances which can have legal implications.
